I'm another definate YES to buying Factions. GW has captured my imagination more than any other game I have ever been involved in. The PvE storylines are great and add to that the awesome tactical/skill aspect of the PvP and this game has great longevity. I'm not the greatest PvP player out there but it is still great fun and blows my mind when I watch the 'big boys' of PvP battling it out and the skill/tactics and planning they put into it.
So adding to the fun I get from playing single player, multi-player or just watching others playing then if ANet are going to add to that then you better believe I'm going to be along for the ride.

I couldn’t agree more with you my friend. I can’t wait till it come out. It’s one of the, if the not the best Online RPG game I have ever played. And factions PVE is meant to be double in length. How cool is that. Guild wars is an amazing game. Thank you Anet for making such an amazing game free, and for that we will always love you lol !

I'm personally giddy with anticipation. Now here's a question: if Factions is stand alone, then can I install it in a different directory (like installing 2 copies of the original)? If I do, then can Factions characters play in any of the original missions? Anyways, I have to get back to getting my time machine to work so I can get Factions before anyone else! Now, where did I put that flux capacitor.........

I have been wondering the same thing myself.
If I purchse Factions, will I just need the key?
Will I need to download the client?
Will it just upgrade the one I already have?
Will it be a separate account?
How exactly will it work with the current version?

1. You just add the factions key to your existing account
2. Uses the same client
3. Yes unless you use the key to create a new seperate account
4. You can if you want to have two accounts (but can't access the other's chapter stuff), or add it to your current one and get access to both.
5. From FAQ
Will I be able to take my existing characters in the new areas of the world? Do they keep their items, their levels, etc?
You will be able to travel to the new land, Cantha, with your Ascended Guild Wars characters. Inventory items, skills, and other possessions and attainments from Guild Wars remain yours with the release of Guild Wars Factions.
How do I get to Cantha?
Players who own both Factions and Guild Wars can travel by boat between the two continents through Lion's Arch or Seitung Harbor.

My decision to buy Factions will be based on a few things:
1) The number of additional character slots provided by Factions
2) The amount of increased storage for items
3) The nature of the Quest Rewards
4) The cost of upgrading a current account with Factions
Since Factions is designed to be a stand-alone sequel to Prophecies (much like Wizardry V - Heart of the Maelstrom is to any of the first three games in that vintage series), presumably there will be a minimum of four character slots available - more likely bumped up to five or six at the most with the addition of the two new professions.
However, it is highly doubtful that it will translate into an equal number of slots when upgrading a current GW account with a Factions key. More than likely, we will end up getting two additional slots when adding Factions (and the same for those who get Factions first and later add Prophecies) - for a total of six characters per account with both games. And that is unfortunate, as there are many players like myself who want to play through the entire game with each primary profession without having to delete a well used high level character to do so. Quite frankly, the time I spent exploring Chapter 1 with each of my current characters is far too valuable to me to simply delete out of hand in order to experiment with new builds. With the new chapter (and all subsequent chapters to follow), there should be one character slot available for each primary profession in the game - which means players owning both Prophecies and Factions should get eight slots.
The experience rewards for the quests will also be a major factor in whether Factions will be worth adding to a current account. We already know that the level cap will not be raised, but level 20 characters still gain experience and skill points for each XP roll over they achieve. However, with new skills, more skill points will be needed in order to make the most of them, unless all new non-elite skills will end up being quest rewards. If there will be skills only provided by vendors, then how will the XP rewards of the new quests be designed to be of any use to level 20 characters without be overpowered for new lower level characters? This really has not been explained at all by the devs.
I don’t believe the final cost of the Factions has yet been officially determined or announced, but we can all presume it will be the same as the first game, whether it is purchased for stand-alone use or to upgrade a current account. Anet will use the fact that there is more than double the content of the first game to justify charging full price for what is basically and expansion for those who upgrade their current accounts with the new game. Of course, that means players who only buy Factions are getting a better deal than those who may just buy (or have bought) Prophecies. Still, when you consider that with each primary profession you play, you actually get an entirely different gaming experience, I would hate to buy Factions and only be able to play 75% of the combined chapters’ potential (assuming 6 character slots for 8 primary professions). For 100 bucks, I am kinda wanting to play at that 100% potential without having to sacrifice and previous play time to reach it.
Looking at the bigger picture, if you consider that most MMO’s charge $15-$25 a month for their fees, Guild Wars will still be a bargain even with two $50 releases per year (about $8.35 per month - $16.70 for those who continue to upgrade two accounts). I haven’t played any of the other big name MMO’s, but I doubt that they offer as much additional content throughout the year for the money that Anet is promising to offer. The price seems right to me, but without some of the tweaks to character slots and storage, I still might have to forgo future expansions to save my money for the next big game to come along that probably will offer those tweaks, and more.

Not to mention the expansions other games also sell...
i.e., WoW, where you have to pay a monthly fee, and will probably end up buying the expansions too.

actually the decision is between ONE additional slot and TWO.
3-4 additional on a merged account seem to have been ruled out already.
6 if we are lucky or 5 if not.
this would keep the present ratio in place
3 slots for 6 professions (pri/sec) plus 1 free for pvp or whatever
4 slots for 8 professions (pri/sec) plus 1 free for pvp or whatever

At first when factions was announced, I was leaning towards buying it, now, with the interviews they have published, with hints at what types of gameplay we'll be buying, I'm not so sure. Factions *appears* to be HEAVILY slanted towards PVP play, of which I have little interest in.

An original Prophecies access key can be used to create an account that gives 4 character slots and access to the Prophecies campaign. This will not change.
A Factions access key can be used in either of two ways:
To create a brand new account. If used in this way, you get an account that grants access to Factions content and gives 4 character slots. This is exactly the same as current accounts work except with a different campaign.
It can be added to a pre-existing Prophecies account. If used in this way, you will have a single account with access to the content from both campaigns. You will also have 4+x character slots.
Merging accounts is not possible (and won't be for the foreseeable future). If you want your characters to be able to travel from Tyria to Cantha or vice versa, you must use your Factions access key to upgrade an existing account.

Let me apologize in advance to all the people I'm about to tick off, but I'm getting rather perturbed by this subject myself lately....
And yet with all this "clarification" we still have no clue how many total character slots we will get if we combine our Prophecies account with our Factions account. Thanks bunches for clearing that up Alex.
I will say this; Here Alex clearly states that Factions alone will have 4 character slots, so at a very minimum if we combine Factions with Prophecies we should have 8 total slots, anything more is gravy and fine with me, anything less than 8 is bull****. Why should already loyal passengers paying for an extended trip recieve less than passengers just boarding the ship?
That being said(and I hope I'm wrong), I am under the believe/feeling that what is not being said is speaking louder than what is being said because if Anet was going to give Prophecies+Factions owners 8 or more total character slots they would have stated so already to help increase interest of purchasing Factions to current Prophecies owners/players.
FYI ,We want to know exactly what numerical value x is.

A total of 300 new skills, including 90 new elite skills, for the two new Factions professions and the six core professions from Guild Wars
More than 50 new locales, including story missions, combat arenas, and explorable areas
More than 100 new creatures
New guild halls
New faces, hair styles, and armor sets for both Factions and the core professions
New pets
Hundreds of new weapons and items
more then 50 new locales , doesnt sound to me like Factions will be HEAVILY slanted towards PVP play

If the results of other people's (or even my own!) PvP matches is going to affect my PvE options to a significant level, I'm not buying. The UW/FoW/favor of the gods thing was bad enough. Also, less than 2 extra slots and my wallet stays firmly sealed as well.
